New Classic Games Gift Ideas from Parker Brothers: New Scrabble & Monopoly

  • Scrabble Express: This updated travel-sized version is fast and fun for ages 8 & up. The Scrabble Express mini game board folds up to join the rest of the game pieces in a handy round plastic container. Small enough to play on an airplane tray, Scrabble Express uses 12 letter-dice (regular sized) instead of tiles, which makes the game easier to play on the go. Portable size, clever design, and ease of play make the 20 minute Scrabble Express game fun in the fast lane. This is a nice gift for kids, teens, families and seniors at the suggested retail price of $14.99.
  • Monopoly Boutique Edition (Pink!): This year Parker Brothers has put out something special just for girls. Available exclusively at Toys R Us, this adorable game comes in a pink keepsake box, complete with removable tray and mirror (in case someone needs to fix their lip gloss during the game, of course). And there will be no more arguing about who will be the sports car and who is stuck as the iron... now girls, teens and ladies 8 & up can choose from game tokens in the shapes of a hair dryer, a purse and a cell phone. There is still a shoe (although it's been updated to a flip-flop) and a dog, for all those traditionalists. The very, very pink Monopoly Boutique Edition will be any girly-girl's delight, be she 8 or 98. A shopper's deal at $29.99 (picture below).

Fun New yet Classic Games Gifts from Milton Bradley: Operation & The Game of LIFE

  • Operation Rescue Kit game: Is there anyone who didn't operate on this big-tummy guy as a kid? Seems one bone was always missing (by the way, replacement parts are available on the site linked above). In any case, the new Operation Rescue Kit game (for ages 6+) is a fun family game. This version includes a new oxygen pump and an electronic heart monitor that keeps score. With 4 different games, 3 skill levels and 15 updated ailments to treat (including 'texting' thumb & joystick wrist), this fun game comes in a easy-storage folding plastic "doctor's bag." Milton Bradley's new Operation Rescue Kit game will have the whole family in stitches. (Ouch, sorry, that one hurt.) Retail Price: $24.99
  • The Game of LIFE - Twists & Turns: This year the classic game Then Game of LIFE comes in a Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End version, a Bikini Bottom SpongeBob SquarePants Edition, and an electronic Twists & Turns version. In this last game, a new "LIFEpod" keeps track of the points and money collected with the use of VISA game cards instead of cash. Each player picks a career and explores up to four game board areas as they twist and turn around their chosen "life." Although the classic version is loads of fun without all the fancy new stuff, kids will enjoy the fun of having their own credit card, making grown-up decisions, and not having to choose or 'trust someone' to be Banker. The Game of LIFE: Twists & Turns sells for about $34.99 and The Pirates and SpongeBob versions are about $19-$20.00

Of course, all these games and more are available in the classic versions, as well. But if a family's old game boxes are falling apart, perhaps they might enjoy taking a new look at a vintage favorite amusement.
