Sledding is a classic way for kids to glide through winter. Though sleds can be expensive, many kids' sleds are available at affordable prices.

Sledding is a great option for kids cooped up during snowy weather. It offers exercise, entertainment, and companionship to kids. All that is needed is the right piece of snow equipment – the sled. While high-end sleds can certainly break the bank, there are many options for affordable sleds on the market.

Wham-o Snow Zinger Snow Sled

Retailing at approximately $12, the Wham-o Snow Zinger Snow Sled is an excellent choice for budget-minded families. It is made of light-weight foam, making it easy to transport and carry up those steep sledding hills. It has 4 reinforced handles which allow for 2 riders to grip as they zip into snow banks. The polyethylene bottom liner enhances speed and durability. The Snow Zinger measures 39" long and 22" wide.

Long Speedy Boggan Snow Toboggan

The Speedy Boggan looks like the classic plastic sled and sells for around $20. At 38" long and with two sets of handles, it accommodates two children. The heavy polyethylene construction has molded-in runner that improve the strength of the sled and assist in forming tracks and sled paths. The Speedy Boggan comes in orange, black, and teal. The color options are great for families with multiple children who want to identify their own sled.

Snow Tracker Foam Sled

The Snow Tracker Foam Sled is a one-man sled that ranges in price from $20-$35. It is available in multiple designs, some gender neutral and others gender specific. This is another ultra-light sled designed with a bottom speed-building layer and coated in laminate to prevent cracking in cold weather. The dimensions are 36" x 20 1/2".

Paricon Inflatable Snow Tube

If kids are looking for a snow tube or disk, the Paricon Inflatable Snow Tube might be just the right sled. At 39" in diameter and with one set of handles, it is intended for one rider. The tube was manufactured with reinforced seams and made of 16" gauge cold resistant PVC. Inflatable snow tubes are prone to leaks, and a patch repair is included with purchase.

Mega Saucer Plastic Snow Sled

Though more expensive than the others listed (around $65), this can be a great option for parents who want to glide down the hill with their kids. The sled is capable of holding one adult and one child and measures 36" in diameter. The 8 built-in handles are meant to improve the steering design of the saucer. It also features a double cast plastic wall which both softens and insulates the ride for the devoted sledder.

Winter sports offer so much to children at very little cost. By investing as little as $15, parents can provide their child with a distraction from the winter blues and offer them an opportunity to have fun while getting great exercise.
